N.H.D Reflection

For National History Day we chose to do a project on Ernie Davis. We decided to do Ernie Davis because we were interested in the history of football. We decided to do an exhibit for our project type because we wanted to show a visual picture of his life. We decided to have two major color schemes and they are blue and orange. We chose these colors to represent Syracuse University. The marquee of the board has a blue back round with orange letters that says “Ernie Davis Running For Equality” we also have Ernie Davis football number “44” on both sides of the board. On the left panel we have it colored in orange and we started of with pictures of him and captions talking about his childhood. The middle panel has a replica of a football and in the football we have pictures and real newspaper documents that talks about Ernie Davis. On the right panel we talk about the death of Ernie Davis and how he made a major impact in football.

The theme of National History Day is “Individual in History: Actions and Legacies” Our project relates to this theme because Ernie Davis faced racism and discrimination to become the first black Heisman Trophy winner. His legacy continued to inspire further generation.

We did not move on to the finals for National History Day. We were disappointed because we believed our project was one of the best exhibits down there. We took our time with our preparation for the project, and creating the project. A lot of projects that made it to city were last minute fix ups. The difference between last year and this year was the fact that the topic was easier and we had more people in my group but other than that it was the same. Even though were disappointed we lost its still the learning experience that counts.
