The Life And Times Of Richard Wright

Richard Wright
Richard Wright was one of the most successful writers of his time. Being an African-American writer wasn’t easy, but Richard Wright fought his way to the top.

Richard’s Wrights early years started in 1908 on a cotton plantation near Natchez, Mississippi. Growing up Wright was orphaned and before age 12 he didn’t have formal schooling. In his last year of school he moved to Memphis, Tennessee and he started writing. He was always poor and hungry, and could never afford books to read.

Richard Wrights career began after he moved to Chicago. He became involved in radical politics. He became interested in fiction, and when he moved to New York he began Uncle Toms Children.

His major success came in 1940 when is novel Native Son was published. It was the first book to be written by an African American for the book-of-the month club. Another success story was Black Boy. This was about his life in the south. Many people said this was his masterpiece. Richard Wright’s life ended in 1960, at the time he was working on 8 MEN.

Richard’s Wrights contribution to literature was important because he taught others how to be positive. He also inspired others because he came fro a rough background, and yet was still successful.

I think everyone should know Richard Wright was a very interesting writer. We benefit from him today because he was one of the most successful African American writers of his time.

Richard right has inspired me because he wrote stories that represent what many people go through (i.e.: Black Boy). I would like to be successful in the future just like him.

Why Do I Deserve An A?

Dear Mr. Romero,
Have you ever worked so hard to achieve a goal? Even after you had so much to do, you were stressing because you just can’t make time? Mr. Romero, that’s how I feel about English 1. I think I deserve an A because I mastered the step-up-to writing skills, I know how to tell a quest story, and I mastered the qualities of reading a challenging book.

I deserve an A because I mastered the step-up-to writing skills you taught me. I mastered the skills because in my essays that I write I always use my green, yellow, and red sentences, and I also use my transitions. These skills perfect my writing and also help me receive A’s on essays.

Secondly, I deserve an A because I can tell if any story is a quest story or not. With your help I was able to turn my quest story into a perfect narrative. Stories we read that were quest stories were Huckleberry Finn, Black Boy, and the Day I Won the Streets of Memphis. These stories had very interesting quest.

Lastly I deserve an A because I mastered the qualities of reading a challenging book. Huckleberry Finn is a very challenging book. After I finished the book I felt like I accomplished a lot. The way you helped us organize our notes were very helpful.

In conclusion, I deserve an A. As I leave your class, I would be happy to leave with a smile real wide, because I worked really hard in your class. Don’t you think I deserve an A too?

Sincerely, Brittany Davis
